Franki&Jonny | Feed http://frankiandjonny.com Skeletons http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/skeletons
Produced by Forward Films. Directed by Nick Whitfield. Skeletons is a fantastic surrealist comedy about two travelling salesmen in the business of cleaning skeletons out of people’s closets. The goggles in the film’s title are worn by our protagonists during the extraction process…
Sun, 22 Nov 2009 00:00:00 -0000 WestEnd Films http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/westend-films
Now this is an International Sales and Financing company with style. The marque we developed for them visually represents the film making journey from the straight edged, rational world of financing to the fantastical side of story-telling (it goes from straight to curly, making the ‘E’ on the way). A flamboyant, conceptual logo AND they let us use neon. Awesome.
Sun, 15 Nov 2009 00:00:00 -0000 Tormented Titles http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/tormented-titles
Produced by Forward Films and Slingshot Studios. As part of our greater work on the online campaign, we got our cast to generate a mass of graffiti on the walls of a toilet (for reasons best explained here).

We then used and embellished this graffiti by reverting to our teenage selves (frighteningly well) to create a school desk-scape etched with the bored doodles of Miss Harrington’s Thursday afternoon English class, liberally interspersed with gore and genitalia. Add some fast cuts, blurs and pans courtesy of animator extraordinaire Mr Ben Cook et voila… Tormented.

It perfectly tops and tails the teen horror and has even produced column inches of its own in film reviews.

http://www.tormentedthemovie.com/
Thu, 28 May 2009 00:00:00 -0000 Unanimous Pictures http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/unanimous-pictures
We thoroughly enjoyed injecting a bit of old school glamour into Unanimous Pictures’ new identity (formerly Halcyon Pictures). It’s hard to believe but the website, with its silky smooth animation, is entirely built in HTML…

http://www.unanimouspictures.com/
Tue, 26 May 2009 00:00:00 -0000 French Film http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/french-film
Written by Aschlin Ditta (co-creator of the Catherine Tate show), directed by Jackie Oudney and produced by our friends at Slingshot.

These Jean-Luc Godard inspired titles are MASSIVE. We love em. Sadly we never got to meet Cantona, despite claiming he was integral to the design process.
Tue, 26 May 2009 00:00:00 -0000 Eco http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/eco
Our first shop, and an eco-friendly one at that. We relished the challenge this brief posed and worked closely with the client to develop a simple, playful marque for launch of their west-London flagship store.

We went on to develop their guidelines, stationery, signange and promotional literature… all FSC approved.
Thu, 25 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 The Banker http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/banker
We love this short film, it’s brilliantly directed, the performances are amazing, the sound, production design… everything is top notch. Plus the titles are great.

Drawing on the main theme of the film (sperm donation) we gave every cast and crew member a barcode identity. We did away with the endroller and made everyone that worked on it part of The Banker gene pool.

The Banker won a BAFTA best short film in 2005. Probably because of the titles (and maybe some of that other stuff we mentioned before).
Thu, 25 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Green http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/green
A Granada production for BBC Three.

A series based around 3 friends living in adjecent flats in Manchester. The titles had to set up this senario and allude to the slightly insane nature of their existence. Hence the strange poses, fairy lights and big plastic dog. Remember them? They used to sit outside butchers shops in the 80’s… they were for charity collection but kids thought they were rides.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Four Last Songs http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/four-last-songs
Directed by Francesca Joseph. Produced by Chris Collins.

We created a set of completely original, hand-rendered titles for this enigmatic feature, starring Rhys Ifans and Stanley Tucci. The bitter sweet tale of a dead composer, a Mediterranean island and his legacy needed something ornate and organic with musical connotations… so that’s what we gave them!
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Sugarhouse http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/sugarhouse
Directed by Gary Love. Distributed by Slingshot.

Initially we created the titles and the blog for this excellent story of class chasms in East London starring Ashley Walters and Andy Serkis.

When it was all finished we went on to develop the urban feel for the title treatment and posters and then built a whole street in East London for the website. A really successful integration of accessibility and creativity, with loads to watch and win!

http://sugarhousemovie.com
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Water Damage http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/water-damage
Directed by David Bond. This short film about dementia is both tragic and beautiful.

We hand rendered the type to give a feel of delicacy and rawness, then physically deteriorated it with water to directly reference the name of the film and to suggest the grief of the primary character.

What? We’re actually very sensitive.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Lions Are Green http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/lions-are-green
Directed by David Bond. We were approached by the film’s director and producer to create the titles for this 6 minute short. It’s a simple story about a boy who doesn’t colour-in the same as everyone else (no hobbits or pirate ships or anything!).

We played with this simple idea in the front and end titles, using the magnificent ‘Cheshire’ font from the ‘ShireTypes’ by Jeremy Tankard. We salute you, sir.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Pierrepoint http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/pierrepoint
Directed by Adrian Shergold. Produced by Granada Films.

We developed the film titles for this film about the last Chief Executioner in Britain, Albert Pierrepoint. Using carefully positioned ligatures to suggest lengths of rope we created a very simple but effective identity for the films cinematic outing.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 WorkPlace Art http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/workplace-art
This Shoreditch based gallery and art-buyer was operating 4 different companies dealing with Art in the home, workplace and hospitals as well as digital art installations and needed a way of unifying them.

We did this very successfully by re-working the naming structure and, quite literally, turning ‘art’ on its head. Amazing how you still read it, right?

We then developed the umbrella statement of ‘Art Makes a Difference’ and applied it very flamboyantly to contrast with a restrained corporate application of the 4 logotypes.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 City Lights http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/city-lights
A Granada production for ITV.

We created the titles for this 6 part series that took ‘Northern Lights’ to the big smoke to become ‘City Lights’.

Using ‘Union Square’ as the core typeface and lots of strategically positioned strip lights we created a sophisticated identity for the ITV show that drew its influences from London cabs and street signs.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Minor Hour Films & Major Hour Music http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/minor-hour-films-and-major-hour-music
A very enjoyable identity job to brand 2 companies under the same visual umbrella – Minor Hour Films and Major Hour Music.

Starting from the fantastic client brief of ‘Tim Burton meets Pathé’ we created typographic clockfaces out of both entities as a way of enabling them to work together or separately whenever neccessary.

Click on the link to see the logos animate in the beginnings of their website… more to come soon.

http://www.minorhourfilms.com
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Snow Cake http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/snow-cake
Directed by Marc Evans. UK Distribution: Momentum Pictures.

Staying loyal to the film’s colour palette and continuing the Director’s decision to not use any cuts to black we created a beautiful set of animated titles for this incredibly moving film about grief and friendship in a snowy Canadian town.

We were then able to evolve our designs into the UK poster campaign featuring the 3 key cast members but also managing to carry across the colour and concept from the titles. A bloody miracle!
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Kinoteka - The London Polish Film Festival http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/kinoteka-the-london-polish-film-festival
(The 6th Annual Polish Film Festival) For which we designed the identity and website. Whilst collaborating with the fabulous people at the Polish Cultural Institute, the logo also got treatment from the renowned film poster designer Andrzej Klimowski and animation genii the Quay Brothers.

At the launch there was vodka and blinis and the website got a round of applause. One of the best parties ever.

http://www.kinoteka.org.uk/
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Run Fatboy Run http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/run-fatboy-run
Directed by David Schwimmer. Produced by Material Entertainment.

We designed the end titles for this smash UK hit starring Simon Pegg and Thandie Newton.

Working closely with the Director (who we never called Ross, not even once) we opted for creating hand crafted typographic running footprints for all the key cast and creative credits… which didn’t take long at all.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Brilliant Films http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/brilliant-films
We branded the development arm of Independent (formerly ICM) erm.. brilliantly?

http://www.brilliant-films.com/
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Hugo Arnold http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/hugo-arnold
Hugo is a food writer and menu planner for places like the Ivy and Soho House. He came to us for a website but in the end we developed a complete one-man brand featuring the very succinct fork and pen logo and re-developed all his print materials too.

The site, a very graphic table setting that moves around to reveal sections, is managed entirely by the client through our easy-peasy CMS.

http://www.hugoarnold.com
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Ibid Photo Library http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/ibid-photo-library
The re-branding project for this hi-end stock library covered everything in their portfolio, from stationery and advertising to the website and viral marketing. The core concept uses the brand name as a ‘view finder’ through which you can see any of their images. This provides for a wide range of tactical applications. We get to pick the right image for everything… always a pleasure.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Ministry of Fear http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/ministry-of-fear
We identified the need for this new horror film production company to have an identity that would not simply be another logo at the bottom of a poster.

The resulting brand positions a new genre of film and the film company as ‘The Owners of Fear’. A bracket is central to its eerie marque, which lends fear to whatever it surrounds.

To launch the brand, Franki&Jonny commissioned a series of photographs where causes of phobias were incorporated into a single scene. These were made into postcards for the Sundance launch of the company and their first production, Trauma.

We also used elements from Trauma as well as humerous phobias relevant to the Film industry and phobias based on the location of the Festival to create a series of badges.

We would like to officially thank Mena Suvari for wearing our badges and making us feel like fashion designers for 5 minutes!
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 It's All Electric http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/its-all-electric
A creative, online community for the filmmakers of tomorrow. Only tomorrow is now here and unfortunately itsallelectric.com no longer are. However, still one of our favourite projects (not to mention people), they promoted and supported new film production through a unique programme of participatory festivals and innovative distribution channels.

We worked closely with the directors to create, well, everything; its identity, the website interface and all promotional materials.

However, our role as brand guardian extended beyond these channels. We hosted their first film festival and hopefully may working on more collaborations.
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 Intelligent Safety http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/branding/intelligent-safety
We developed the identity, guidelines, interface and animated sequences for this interactive Health & Safety package. The brand assets included many versions of the logos using different industrial symbols which were designed to work across lots of different applications. The guidelines then told you how to do this.

The client was very pleased with our work and utterly dismayed with the state of our chairs…
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000 One for the Road http://frankiandjonny.com/all/projects/titles/one-for-the-road
Director Chris Cooke. Produced by UK Film Council, EMMI and FilmFour. Distribution: Tartan Films. We produced all graphic design elements for this Chris’s debut feature. Filmed on DV, it’s a story of ‘losers and boozers’ – four drink driving offenders who meet on a compulsory alcohol management course.

We worked with the director and producer from an early stage developing an identity using the ‘half pint’ type on a pint glass. From this, we developed the film titles. We then went on to create a teaser campaign on beer mats before the final promotional poster, postcards and T-shirts.

We heard one person say it was the strongest campaign at the Edinburgh Film Festival. We’d like to think many more people thought the same thing.

http://www.onefortheroad.co.uk
Mon, 08 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0000
